The national roll-out of the Food Dudes Programme was funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine and the European Union, and managed by Bord Bia. All primary schools in the country were invited to take part over a number of years. Funding has been made available by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the EU School Fruit Scheme for schools that previously ran Food Dudes to implement it for current students at junior level including specified tasting days for senior classes. The programme has the support of the Department of Education & Science.
The following service providers have been contracted by Bord Bia to assist in the implementation of the Food Dudes Programme:
- Real Nation - training of teachers and management of programme in schools
- Glanmore Foods - source, prepare and distribute the fruit and vegetables to participating schools
- Lucas Promotions - source and provide rewards
- One Production - production of video materials
Ireland is participating in the EU School Fruit Scheme and, from September 2009, the fruit and vegetables provided in the Food Dudes Programme are co-funded by the EU through the School Fruit Scheme.
